NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Today’ journalist Craig Melvin recently begged co-host Sheinelle Jones to stop embarrassing herself on live TV after she started to sing a song on-air.
The 44-year-old host screamed at his ‘Today’ co-anchor "don’t do this to yourself" because "the internet is undefeated."
This happened when the hosts were discussing which band would they love to see reunite while divulging NSYNC's possible reunite.
Even recently, Melvin called out Jones on live TV while asking if she could change a spare tire.
During a summer car safety segment, Jones recalled the time when got in trouble on a road trip. While on an upstate trip, the host blamed a pothole for her car trouble.
Her co-host Al Roker playfully teased her, and she realized her car lacked a spare tire. Melvin quipped about her changing a tire, to which she retorted she'd call for help.
What was 'Today's hot topic?
On Friday's show, Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, and Dylan Dreyer delved into the day's hot topics. They initially chatted about Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour making its way to movie theaters.
Shifting gears to music, they touched upon rumors of an *NSYNC reunion, prompted by fan sightings of hints on billboards in New York and Los Angeles.
However, the buzz was actually about the new Trolls movie, 'Trolls Band Together', featuring *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake.
A website bearing their iconic *NSYNC logo surfaced online, accompanied by a teaser of a song from the upcoming movie.
Jones said, "If the speculation is right, it would be the first *NSYNC reunion in a decade.”
The band briefly reunited for under a minute in 2013, joining Justin on stage to accept his VMA Video Vanguard Award.
Sheinelle Jones’s embarrassing on-air singing
Following the discussion of the potential *NSYNC reunion, Sheinelle Jones posed a question to Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer, asking them which bands they would most like to see reunite.
Jones wore a big smile as she teased, "Ok, so for me. Ok this is your hint. You ready?" She then playfully began singing, "How did you know? Cause I never told. You found out.”
Dreyer reacted with an amused "Oh God" and shared a laugh, while Melvin struggled to hold back his chuckles.
Jones carried on singing, and as a clip of the band played on the screen, she excitedly exclaimed, "That's it!" It was clear that Jones had a favorite band in mind for a potential reunion.
Dreyer playfully teased Jones, mentioning she was relieved Wayne Newton wasn't present because of Jones’s off-pitch singing.
Undeterred, Jones expressed her determination to try again, but Melvin quickly interjected with a stern "No. No."
Melvin cautioned against attempting it, saying, “No. Don't do this. The internet is undefeated. Do not do that to yourself.”
Despite the advice, Jones took it in good humor, throwing her head back and laughing.
She then turned the conversation back to the topic at hand, asking Melvin, "I want the Jets to be reunited. What about you, Craig?"
He straightforwardly mentioned "Outkast" as his choice for a band he'd like to see reunite.
Jones inquired about Dreyer’s preference, to which she explained that the bands she used to listen to had disbanded due to unfortunate circumstances, saying, "Somebody passed away."
Melvin responded, "That'd be a heck of a reunion though, wouldn't it?"Dreyer then revealed her top pick for a reunion would be Nirvana, a choice that carried deep emotional significance given the band's history.
