NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: It is always sunny on ‘Today’ as host Carson Daly once again engaged in playfully teasing his co-host Al Roker. In a segment about the 75th anniversary of NBC's 'Nightly News', the show host mocked Al’s age on live TV.
The co-hosts Hoda Kotb, Sheinelle Jones, and Craig Melvin doubled over in laughter, including Al, on Carson’s clever joke delivery. Melvin’s laughter especially stood out during the segment.
Carson pokes fun at AI Roker's age
Carson is known for being the humorist who tends to make every other segment fun regardless of its subject. This is another instance where the show host was leading a segment celebrating NBC Nightly News’ 75-year anniversary. This time, Al became Carson’s target for his unpredictable but fitting joke.
The segment started with a black and white film from the broadcast of the first regularly scheduled evening newscast with the typical whirring style of TV announcement in the background. As soon as the short video ended, Carson continued with, “And Al did the weather,” implying that the co-host has been working on TV ever since 1948, taking a subtle fun jab at him.
Al contributes to the jest
Al, as usual, took the joke and ran along with it. To Carson’s comment, he responded with a quick, mock-serious tone, “I did! I did! It was great.” Funnily enough, Al was born in 1974, a considerable amount of time after the night show’s first airing.
The other three co-hosts just continued laughing at the back-and-forth between the two. Carson also went on to say, “Here's what's happening in your neck of the woods." Like a planned, double-comedy act, Al commented, "It was a much smaller neck."
