LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a dramatic turn of events, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have officially addressed their decision to divorce four years after their marriage.
"After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage," read the statement released by the exes on Instagram on Wednesday.
"There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children," the statement added.
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas have an 'ironclad' prenuptial agreement
Despite the exes claiming the decision was united, sources close to the couple shared that the actress was a partier, reported Radar Online.
The joint statement was released a day after the songwriter filed for divorce from Turner in a court in Florida where he sought joint custody of their two young daughters.
According to sources, the reportedly "iron-clad prenuptial agreement" signed by the couple outlines the division of their respective assets with Jonas holding onto his music royalties and Turner retaining her 'Game of Thrones' residuals.
The 'Hesitate' singer requested the Florida court to ensure their daughters have "frequent and continuing" contact with him and Turner.
Why did Sophia Turner and Joe Jonas split?
Sources close to the singer who hired attorney Tom Sasser, the former divorce lawyer for Tiger Woods, began spilling details claiming Turner's excessive partying a reason behind the split.
"She likes to party, he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles," an insider told TMZ.
Meanwhile, another source claimed that despite Jonas being on tour with his brother, he had been taking care of their two daughters for weeks.
A third source spoke to Daily Mail saying that the exes had been dealing with problems for several months though they presented a united front in public.
However, TMZ reported that multiple sources close to Jonas claimed that the singer saw/heard something with Turner that he found from a ring camera which reportedly led to the divorce.
The estranged couple who tied the knot in 2019 in a Las Vegas ceremony began dating in 2016.
A source shared that the 'Time Freak' actress felt "trapped" in her marriage to Jonas.
"Sophie feels like she's only just waking up to what her life and reality really is," the source told Daily Mail.
"She became famous at a very young age, then married and had kids at a young age and never really had the teenage years of sleeping around and just having carefree fun with friends,” the source added.
