LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ahead of 'The Witcher' Season 3 release, Henry Cavill admitted that the stakes are a lot higher for Geralt of Rivia this season. With the threat of war looming over all characters and the constant need to protect Ciri, the excitement to witness Geralt crushing monsters and fighting supernatural beings has been at an all-time high.
The newest season of 'The Witcher' will be emotional for fans as it will mark Cavill's final appearance. However, the war has been threatened for far too long and the stakes are really high. The build-up from Seasons 1 and 2 will reach its culmination in the third season to give Cavill's character a heroic sendoff.
Will Geralt's neutrality affect Ciri?
Cavill has mentioned that with Geralt, one thing is always intact and that is neutrality. However, with everyone after Ciri, the need to protect her might make him lose that neutrality. Geralt is deeply aware of the political mechanisms and decisions that exist, with many of them being incredibly selfish.
In the Netflix Tudum event, Cavill acknowledged that the threat is incredibly high but with Geralt's nonchalant attitude, Ciri's protection may be compromised. The threats of war, famine, and end times do not bother him because, for him, it is just another fight. Cavill went on to say, "He’s like, 'Look. I’ve been there, done that. It’s not the end times. It’s just going to be another fight." However, it is the involvement of Ciri that entirely changes his perspective on this.
Bond between Geralt and Ciri
With Ciri being acknowledged as the most powerful and coveted being on the continent, the competing factions have devoted themselves to the hunt for the princess. Season 3 will also see Geralt naturally assuming fatherhood to protect Ciri. As he acknowledges his fear and is accompanied by his loved ones, he is more passionate than ever to protect everyone.
The threat for Geralt is no longer theoretical but rather practical. Cavill mentioned, "They are walking into the lion’s den everywhere they go." Season 3 of 'The Witcher' not only shifts Geralt's perspective of things but also allows Cavill to tap into his new side of being a father figure to Ciri. 'The Witcher' Season 3 Volume 1 releases June 29, 2023 on Netflix.
