Spoilers for ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 Episode 3
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Episode 2 of ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 had a lot going on. Yennefer and Ciri’s journey was important but the cliffhanger really was a shocker. Geralt rescues a young girl who claims to be Ciri, and now in ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 Episode 3 he must attempt to unravel everything he can about this young girl, who does look shockingly like the original Ciri, so kudos to the makeup and casting department of ‘The Witcher.’
‘The Witcher’ Season 3 Episode 3 is an important one because it pinpoints the middle of Part 1 of Season 3. This also means that things are bound to change for certain characters but one can’t help but wonder whether or not Geralt will meet Yennefer and Ciri once again. By that we mean the real Ciri, of course, not the one Geralt rescued. Now Geralt must figure out who this young girl is, but turns out, it isn’t as easy as it might seem.
Geralt and Jaskier reunite
While everyone loves seeing Geralt with Ciri and Yennefer, the bond between Jaskier and Geralt is unique. While Geralt usually doesn’t ask for help, this situation certainly calls for some assistance and a second opinion. Jaskier takes one look at the new…or fake Ciri in this case, whichever suits one better. Lucky for Geralt, he was aware of a druid not far from them, who could definitely be of some help to them, to help understand who or what this young girl really was. Geralt and Jaskier make their way to Otto and Anika's secluded home, and Jaskier doesn't hide his shock or feat after learning Otto is a werewolf. Jaskier's presence in 'The Witcher' Season 3 Episode 3 gives a sense of comic relief in an otherwise serious plotline. But let's not digress to Jaskier's antics and focus on the new Ciri who has appeared.
Of course, Anika, the druid has some answers for Geralt. The new Ciri is bound by a very strong mind-control enchantment which is a dangerous mix of elements of chaos, ancient elven sorcery, and some druid magic as well. In addition to that, she is also part elven. None of this helps her case and Anika makes it crystal clear that the chances of her returning back to normal are slim but if she does, Geralt will have all the answers he needs from her.
Geralt’s impatience strikes once again
One could take a simple look at Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt and gather that he is indeed a very impatient man, and it is all in his facial expressions. Geralt needs answers, and he needs them now. New Ciri is under an extraction spell and resting but Geralt is quick to wake her up as he begins his questioning. We can finally stop calling her new Ciri as she reveals her name, Teryn. Geralt’s questions get more frequent, desperate for answers, to find the source, but he pushes her too far, unleashing evil. As Teryn is possessed, she looks straight at Geralt, “You stupid Witcher, you’re doomed and you don’t even know.”
After that, it is pure havoc as the dark magic, as one could call it, throws everyone out of the way, and Teryn takes Otto’s amulet, which previously prevented him from turning into a werewolf. Luckily, Jaskier is quick to secure the amulet, and Otto makes the potion that puts Teryn back under the spell. If they hadn’t all worked together, Teryn could have easily killed someone. Despite Geralt’s tries, he doesn’t get the answer he needs from Teryn, but he understands that the force that is behind it all isn’t one he can fight alone.
