LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: On Friday, July 14, ‘The View’ co-hosts discussed a range of ‘Hot Topics’ and one of them included body-shaming in the early 2000s. Joy Behar took the opportunity to recall some of the celebrities who faced this issue back in the day, including Kate Winslet and Jessica Simpson, despite Simpson being a size 4, as claimed by Sunny Hostin.
In this particular segment, the co-hosts share their own experiences with body-shaming, whether they were the ones who went through it, or saw it impact others. There’s a lot of body positivity on ‘The View’ as Hostin opens up to her co-hosts and the audience about her breast reduction surgery and the experience surrounding it.
‘I’m a little small perky C’
The co-hosts indulge in a healthy conversation about body positivity, uplifting their viewers when Hostin says, “Isn’t it more about what you are comfortable with? I mean if you love it, I love it for you, you know what I mean?” Hostin then goes on to talk about her breast reduction surgery, “You know, I was very open about my breast reduction and breast lift, and I got all these horrible messages about – you looked fine, you looked fine. Well, those G babies that I was carrying around, I didn’t want them anymore. I got rid of them, I’m a little small perky C, very happy with myself. I love it for me. I’m not asking anyone else to do it.”
Earlier in 2023, People magazine also interviewed Hostin, where she shared details about the process and calls it a “health decision and a self-care decision." The interview highlights the insecurities faced by Hostin, which only increased when she joined ‘The View’ full-time in 2016. Hostin said, "My waist was small, but my top was so big I would wear a minimizer bra and a sports bra or a binder all the time or I would get a very large dress, and then my stylist would put clips on the back of my dress so that everything would fit."
In August 2022, Hostin underwent breast reduction, breast lift, as well as liposuction on her waist and chin, in New York City. Since then, Hostin has hoped to destigmatize these procedures and spread a positive message centered around these changes.
