Spoilers for ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Episode 4
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mickey Haller promised to keep things professional with Lisa Trammel after she was accused of the murder of real estate developer Mitchell Bondurant. Mickey and Lisa have a romantic history and they slept together after the defense attorney had a meal in her restaurant. Since then, Lisa has been in constant trouble with law enforcement and now with a serious murder charge, things look bleak for her. The prosecution has taken the plea off the table and a trial is all but confirmed.
However, this does not deter Mickey. He continues to question Lisa about her life, trying to locate and find some answers but she does not offer much to go on. Mickey then decides that he needs to look at the financial dealings of Bondurant and find a motive for his murder. He gets to work and employs all the resources at his disposal. Cisco, Izzy and Lorna all get in on the case but it turns out that almost all the evidence is against Lisa.
Is Mitchell Bondurant connected to Armenian organized crime?
Mickey inquired about Lisa’s ex-husband, who might be connected to the case somehow. However, Lisa doesn’t know anything about her former husband’s whereabouts which leaves Mickey nothing to work with. Mickey decides to scrutinize Bondurant’s life instead. However, Cisco retrieves a photo, which shows Lisa attacking Bondurant in a public rally while protesting against the real estate developer’s housing project. This further dampens Mickey’s resolve but after pulling an all-nighter, Mickey finds an e-mail from Bondurant to Alex Grant, threatening to expose him if he does not pay up.
Mickey reaches the office the next morning and Cisco, after his investigation, reveals that Alex Grant is Alex Kazarian and has ties to Armenian organized crime. Mickey deduces that Bondurant was threatening Alex for money and the latter retaliated and killed him. Although Mickey uncovers a link between Bondurant and Armenian organized crime, it will be a battle to prove that in court and show it as a motive for murder.
Mickey is excited to take this to Lisa, who now believes that she has a chance to fight the prosecution. Mickey meets the prosecution lawyer and informs her that they will not take the plea but instead, they will take the case to trial. However, the prosecuting attorney tells him that they’ve withdrawn the plea and Mickey now believes that the prosecution has a piece of far better evidence against Lisa than before. It’s all or nothing in the courtroom for Lisa.
