LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA: Taron Egerton was matched with his boyhood crush, Rachel Weisz, in the newest round of Variety's 'Actors on Actors' series, resulting in a hilarious and slightly humiliating meeting. During their talk, a Variety staff member gave Weisz an iPad, which caused Egerton to become noticeably embarrassed and concerned about its contents.
Concerned that he could have said something embarrassing in the past, Egerton screamed, "It's going to embarrass me, isn't it?" as reported by People. He was shocked when the iPad started playing footage of Taron Egerton's appearance on 'Watch What Happens Live' in 2019.
Egerton shared 'Rachel Weisz' was her celebrity crush calling her 'gorgeous'
In the video, the host, Andy Cohen, questioned Egerton about his first celebrity infatuation. The actor immediately and without hesitation said, "Rachel Weisz," praising her beauty and her role in the 2002 movie 'About a Boy'. In the video, he even called her "gorgeous," the media outlet noted. Egerton also disclosed that Weisz was his "free pass" in his relationship at the time during the talk show interview.
'I cannot believe you're doing that to me'
Weisz's initial response to the footage, as the media outlet noted was a simple "oh," while Egerton's face became redder as he concealed it in shame with his hands and refused eye contact. He playfully said, "I cannot believe you're doing that to me," while also expressing his thanks to the Variety employees. "Thanks for that, guys", Egerton remarked before adding "So, here we are. Here we are now sitting in the awkwardness."
'You're not going to let us move past this, are you?'
“Very honored,” Weisz answered playfully. To keep the mood light and avoid awkwardness, 'The Mummy' actress then revealed her first celebrity crush. Weisz who is married to actor Daniel Craig had Marc Almond from the synth-pop duo Soft Cell as her celebrity crush. As she began elaborating on her fondness for Almond, Egerton jokingly remarked, "You're not going to let us move past this, are you?" Weisz laughed and responded, "No, moving swiftly on."
'So British and awkward'
The two actors also connected over their previous recent dramatic roles during their talk. In 'Black Bird', Egerton played a prisoner, while in 'Dead Ringers', Weisz played identical twin gynecologists. They found common ground in their shared British heritage and recognized their mutual uneasiness. Egerton regarded both of them as "so British and awkward."
