Throughout his extensive career, Sylvester Stallone has explored various genres and roles. However, as he reached a certain point in his career, Stallone consciously decided to limit his involvement in love scenes. Now, with the reality Tv show ‘The Family Stallone’, the real reasons have come to light.
One significant factor that influenced this decision was his wife, Jennifer Flavin. The former supermodel expressed her displeasure regarding Stallone's love scene with Sharon Stone in the film ‘The Specialist’. Consequently, Stallone chose to avoid potential intimate scenes in future movies.
It wasn't easy getting steamy
Stallone and Stone shared the screen in the 1994 film ‘The Specialist’, where Stallone portrayed a bomb expert persuaded by Stone's character to seek revenge against the gang responsible for her family's death. This marked their first collaboration, and according to Stallone in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, they immediately clicked and enjoyed each other's company.
Despite their amicable working relationship, Stone was not comfortable with the nude scene involving the two actors taking an intimate shower in the action-thriller. The scene posed challenges for both stars, leading to their dissatisfaction during its filming.
Remembering the scene
“OK. Let it be known, I didn’t want to do this scene because Sharon was not cooperating. We get to the set and she decides not to take her robe off. The director asks only a few of the crew to remain, and she still won’t take it off,” Stallone once said on Ain’t It Cool News in 2006.
“I promised her I wouldn’t take any liberties, so what’s the problem? She said, ‘I’m just sick of nudity’. I asked her if she could get sick of it on someone else’s film. She was having none of it, so I went down to my trailer, brought back a bottle of Black Death vodka that was given to me by Michael Douglas and after half-a-dozen shots we were wet and wild,” he remembered.
It was the last for Stallone
It wasn't just Stone who had reservations about the scene. Jennifer Flavin, was also deeply bothered by it. Flavin held the belief that there had to be a romantic attachment between actors in order to convincingly portray such intimate moments. Stallone shared his own discomfort with the scene and acknowledged Flavin's distress, leading him to decide that it would be the last time he would engage in that level of on-screen intimacy.
According to the Irish Examiner, Stallone once expressed, "Jennifer does not believe you can just be acting and thinks there must be some kind of romantic attachment. I hated doing it and Jennifer was upset so I knew that would be the last time for me."
