NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Today’ host Craig Melvin recently surprised co-host Al Roker's granddaughter, Sky, with a sweet fluffy surprise. Sky is Roker's first grandchild.
Sky was born to Roker’s eldest daughter, Courtney Laga. The new grandfather cannot stop himself from holding the toddler for hours. He revealed how he felt holding her for the first time during a recent episode of ‘Today’, with his co-hosts Hoda Kotb, Savanna Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer. Although Melvin was absent from the morning show, he sent Sky a gift as Courtney took to Instagram to thank him.
‘Sky will love this’
Courtney shared a heartfelt Instagram story on July 22, thanking co-host, Craig Melvin, for his gift for Sky. The photo showed Courtney's husband, Wes, beaming with joy as he held up a large stuffed animal with the name "Sky" embroidered along the bottom. Courtney expressed her gratitude, writing, "Thank you @craigmelvinnbc," accompanied by a red heart emoji. She was certain that little Sky would adore the thoughtful gift.
Al Roker’s happiest moment
On July 3, Roker announced the birth of Sky Clara Laga, expressing his family's immense happiness. The ‘Today’ co-hosts found the name perfectly fitting for the beloved weatherman's little one. Sheinelle Jones gushed over how adorable and fitting the name "Sky" was for Roker’s first grandchild.
After letting the news settle for a week, Roker opened up about the story behind Sky's name during a conversation with his co-hosts. Surprisingly, he revealed that he did not know the exact reason why his daughter and son-in-law chose the name. The name remains a delightful mystery, adding to the charm of Roker’s growing family. He has been sharing adorable snaps with Sky more often. He recently posted a photo of himself and Sky. He captioned the post, “I could look into this face all day. But then, little Sky Clara wouldn’t get to eat, so I eventually had to give her back to Mommy and Daddy."
