NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: With 'The Bachelorette's' Hometown Dates approaching and with six guys remaining, Charity Lawson's roses held more weight than ever on the July 24 episode. Though Sean McLaughlin made it to the last stop in New Orleans before the candidates' families entered the picture, he was acutely aware that he had yet to meet the Season 20 lead. Charity, on the other hand, selected him and Tanner Courtad for a two-on-one date, leaving Sean perplexed and "pissed." By the conclusion of the episode, Sean was on his way home, and Bachelor Nation couldn't help but laugh at his antics.
Charity wasn't sure whether she wanted to offer her rose to Sean or Tanner following a boat tour of the gator-infested Louisiana marsh and a meal afterward. Charity, still confused and sporting a stress rash, eventually opted not to offer either guy the two-on-one date Rose and requested more time to consider her options.
'What happened? I saw a future with her'
Sean and Aaron were irritated when Charity added Sean and Tanner to Aaron Bryant and Xavier Bonner's date. Aaron wanted to show Charity New Orleans, since it was a part of him that was important to his development and his entire existence. Sean felt he had received no validation for the whole of his quest, yet he was still present. He described it as perplexing. It was building up inside him, but he was fighting it. However, he added that if Dotun received a rose, all hell would break loose.
Sean informed the other guys that he didn't think Dotun would get another one-on-one date after receiving one the week before. He also didn't anticipate Joey getting one, especially because Aaron is from New Orleans. Joey agreed that he didn't expect to get one. Sean exited the room as Dotun returned with the rose and proceeded to narrate his date with Charity. "I'm confused, I'm frustrated, I'm mad. It hurts," he said in his confessional. "How can I envision a future with Charity when I'm still not getting the validation or any of that? So it definitely makes you think, like, am I feeling things that she's not?"
Sean stated in his confessional that he saw a future life with Charity, viewing her as his wife and the mother of his children. He stated that he needed and deserved to know where he stood with her, so he went to her hotel room. Sean informed her that he needed an answer since he was completely in love with her, which was why the rose meant so much to him.
Charity expressed gratitude to him. She realized that he had shown her so much of who he was as a person from the start. However, thinking back and comprehending the gravity of everything that week, she stated that she had greater ties. Sean informed Charity that he had an inkling about what they could accomplish with the one-on-one time. He didn't want her to abandon their relationship, since they hadn't experienced it yet. He believed it was something they should investigate more. Furthermore, he was convinced that with one-on-one time, they would be able to get there. Charity informed him she couldn't offer him what he desired. She stated that she was terrified of not being able to get there and did not believe she could. She expressed her regret and apologized. Charity escorted Sean out, and the two hugged.
Sean admitted in his confessional that he was hurt, crushed, and puzzled. He did everything to communicate how and why he felt that way, but it wasn't enough. "I'm walking away from here with such incredible feelings about this girl," Sean ended. "What happened? I saw a future with her." He suddenly clutched his head in his palm and said, "Oh, my God."
'You are not owed anything on this show'
Reacting to Sean throw fit one fan tweeted, "I think Sean needs a kids meal to calm him down. It worked once." While others joked, "Sean’s one more slight away from busting out singing “I’m just Sean”." One user noted, "Charity trying to break up with Sean and him not getting it." A fourth user tweeted, "witnessing Charity getting the ick during this conversation with Sean."
Another person quipped, "Sean: "I need an answer." Everyone watching." One threw shade at the contestant saying, "Call me crazy but something tells me Sean isn’t used to things not going his way." One asked, "Sorry Sean but exactly what kind of “hell” is going to “break loose” if Dotun gets a rose? What do you think you’re going to do?" One fan also noted, "Is it just me or is Sean acting extremely, extremely entitled right now? You are not owed anything on this show."
