LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Years before harrowing sexual assault allegations emerged against Russell Brand, he became embroiled in a high-profile row where Bob Geldof called him a ‘c**t’ on live TV.
The 48-year-old comedian and actor has now been accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse by four women.
In investigations of The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4 'Dispatches', the four accusers claimed that Brand sexually assaulted them between 2006 and 2013, when he worked for BBC Radio 2 and Channel 4 and featured in Hollywood films.
The allegations were disclosed in a special Dispatches documentary called ‘Russell Brand: In Plain Sight’ that was aired on Channel 4 on Saturday, September 16.
The documentary also featured various clips of Brand from television and radio shows where he appeared to make several crude sexual jokes.
In one of the clips, Geldof was seen calling Brand a ‘c***’ on stage at the NME awards, according to the Mirror.
Why did Bob Geldof slam Russell Brand on live TV?
The clash allegedly took place at the NME awards in 2006 when Geldof was called to the stage by Brand to accept the award for Best Music DVD.
Announcing the winner, the actor said: "Of course the winner is Live Aid so please welcome to the stage Sir Bobby Gandalf," deliberately mispronouncing the singer’s name.
When he made his way up to the stage, Geldof shared a brief and tense-looking handshake with Brand before saying "Russell Brand what a c***"."
After Geldof gave his victory speech, Brand retook the podium and continued to take another dig at Geldof and one of his songs.
"Bob Geldof there, obviously an amazing man to whom we have a lot to be grateful — not him calling me a c***, of course. Really, it's no surprise he's such an expert on famine; he has, after all, been dining out on 'I Don't Like Mondays' for 30 years,” the actor replied.
Before the clash, Brand was linked to Bob Geldof’s daughter Peaches but their relationship was never confirmed.
Peaches, who died in April 2014 of a drug overdose at the age of 25, once claimed that she flirted with him at a party, but no more than that, according to Daily Mail.
What are the allegations against Russell Brand?
Per the allegations, published by The Sunday Times in a joint investigation with Channel 4, Russell Brand sexually assaulted and emotionally abused multiple women between 2006 and 2013.
One woman accused Brand of sexually assaulting her in his Los Angeles residence while another alleged that he tried to groom her as they were involved in an allegedly 'emotionally abusive and controlling relationship' for three months when she was just 16 and still at school, and he was 31.
A third woman claimed that the comedian sexually attacked her while they were coworkers in Los Angeles and that he threatened legal action if she notified anyone else about her accusation.
The fourth victim, who worked with Brand when he presented 'Big Brother's Big Mouth', alleged the star flashed her and made inappropriate advances at her.
In a YouTube video, the ‘Death on the Nile’ actor has strongly denied all the "very serious allegations" made against him, insisting that his past relationships have been "absolutely always consensual."
