During Italy's first Covid-19 lockdown, Lame had just lost his job at a factory near the northern city of Turin.
He and his three siblings were holed up at their parents' house in Chivasso throughout the day as he hunted for work.
He downloaded TikTok one day and started tinkering with it in his bedroom, sharing videos of himself there under the name of Khaby Lame.
Over time, he built a career out of it. He gained popularity online for his poker-faced responses to life's difficulties by replying to ironic life-hack videos.

Lame's girlfriend, Zaira Nucci, is 5ft and 4 inches (1.62m/ 162cm) tall, making her 9 inches shorter than Lame. They have reportedly known each other since October 2020.
Lame shared a picture on April 4, 2021 on his Instagram. The TikToker said that he came across Nucci in October 2020 and replied to her story on Instagram. Nucci was born in 2003 in Sciacca, Italy.
“It all started by chance, thanks to social media. In October 2020 I replied to a story on Instagram. We talked for a while, then we stopped writing,” he reportedly said in an interview with Ruetir.
Later, the couple reconnected in their hometown. Reports said he invited her out and they headed to a McDonald's. He said, "The first time was beautiful and simple at the same time."
Lame has shared space with other A-listers, appeared on red carpets and has even walked the ramp at Milan Fashion Week in 2022.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Lame revealed that he has dyslexia and his parents sent him to a Quranic school in Dakar for sometime as a result. He also reportedly has dyscalculia.

In an interview with CNN, Lame explained, “The type of gesture came by chance, but the silence didn’t. I thought of a way to reach as many people as possible. And the best way was not to speak.”
