MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE: Priscilla Presley's longstanding desire to be laid to rest near her beloved former husband, Elvis Presley, at the iconic Graceland estate has finally been approved. Court documents reveal that Priscilla's wish to be buried near Elvis, their daughter Lisa Marie Presley, and grandson Benjamin Keough has been granted.
Priscilla expressed her heartfelt sentiments stating, "Although I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon, it is my family's and my wish for me to be laid to rest with my daughter and the love of my life when that time comes. We appreciate the love from all of the fans."
New chapter for Presley family
The documents not only disclose Priscilla's designated burial spot but also outline how the estate will be divided among Lisa Marie's surviving children. Riley Keough, Lisa Marie's eldest daughter, has been appointed as the trustee of the Presley estate, as specified in a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie's living trust.
However, the journey leading up to this approval was not without its challenges. Following Lisa Marie's sudden passing due to multiple cardiac arrests in January 2023, Priscilla filed paperwork questioning the validity of an amendment that removed her as a co-trustee of Lisa Marie's trust. The amendment had designated Riley Keough and Benjamin to share the role, but with Benjamin's untimely death in 2020, Riley became the sole trustee.
'As a family, we are pleased that we resolved this together!'
After reaching a private settlement in May 2023, Priscilla and Riley have resolved their differences regarding the trust. According to the documents, Priscilla will serve as a special advisor to the trust and will receive monthly compensation from her granddaughter. Priscilla broke her silence and said, “As a family, we are pleased that we resolved this together. My family and I hope everyone will grant us the privacy we need to properly grieve Lisa Marie and spend personal time together. We love and appreciate all of you, and the Presley family is stronger than ever,” reported People.
The Meditation Garden, located behind Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, holds special significance in the Presley family's history. Originally established by Elvis as a place for quiet reflection, it became the final resting place for the legendary singer following his death in 1977. Over the years, the garden has also become the burial site for Elvis' parents, Vernon and Gladys, as well as their stillborn son, Jessie. Additionally, Lisa Marie was laid to rest there in 2023, and Benjamin was interred next to his grandfather in 2020.
