LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Some watch ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ for Kelly Ripa, some for Mark Consuelos, and others for this married couple who simply gel well together, making it fun for everyone involved. Those who are new to ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ might be unaware of the history of the show. Before Mark was a part of it, Ryan Seacrest co-hosted with Kelly, and the show was ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan.’
Since Seacrest’s exit, a lot has changed, especially considering Kelly’s husband Mark joined her for co-hosting duties on the talk show. While old fans might have noticed these changes, Kelly spoke about one stark difference she has noticed in the last few months of ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ and it might not be what you expect.
‘This used to be a safe space for women’
On Monday, among other things, Mark and Kelly spoke about ‘Final X’, a wrestling competition that the couple attended. Kelly couldn’t help but notice that there were only a few women present at that competition, and most were related to the competitors. From this observation, Kelly made a connection to ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ as she turned to face her husband and said, “I don’t know if this is the Consuelos effect on this show, but since you’ve been here, there have been a ton of men in the audience. So, I don’t know what that is.” At this point, the audience erupted in applause and Mark couldn’t help but join in as he nodded along, “Yeah! Yeah it’s a bro show”
Despite the continued applause from the audience, Kelly continued her statement as she said, “This used to be women. Women that have come here before, you know. This used to be a safe space for women. There would be an entirely female audience, and once in a while a husband, who would sit very silently.” The audience and Mark couldn’t help but laugh at Kelly’s words but looks like the Consuelos effect is in full force at ‘Live with Kelly and Mark.’
Why did Seacrest leave the talk show?
Seacrest left ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan’ after six seasons of co-hosting duties and being a fan favorite. His exit from the show was a bittersweet moment for all, including Kelly. When Seacrest first announced his exit from the talk show, he had briefly mentioned it was because he wanted to focus on other projects, including ‘American Idol.’ While Seacrest is often missed on this show, Mark has filled in the void in the best way possible and added to the show with charm, humor, good looks, and of course, the ‘Consuelos effect.’
