The location tag indicated that she had visited the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to make the official change. With her birth name, Kourtney Mary Kardashian, now replaced, it signified a significant milestone in her relationship with Barker.

"Say my name," Kourtney wrote in her caption. To further clarify her actions, she took to Instagram to share a screenshot of an article discussing the tradition of name changes after marriage. "It’s long been tradition for the bride to take her husband’s last name, and traditionally, she drops her middle name and keeps her last (her ‘maiden’ name) as her middle name. Her husband’s last name then becomes her new last name," read the snippet. "In case you didn’t know…," the reality star captioned her story.
However, fans have noticed that Kourtney's post coincided with the airing of an episode of 'The Kardashians' that featured her sister Kim's visit to the DMV to take her driver's license photo. In the episode, Kim went to great lengths to ensure her photo was perfect, even bringing her glam squad along for hair and makeup. The timing of Kourtney's post led some fans to speculate that it was a deliberate shade at Kim's extravagant DMV experience.
