LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Pop star Katy Perry recently came under scrutiny for being silent about her ex-husband Russell Brand after he was accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse by four women.
The accusations were brought to light in a joint investigation by The Sunday, The Times, and Channel 4's 'Dispatches'.
However, Brand took to YouTube to share a video denying the allegations made against him.
As some users began questioning Perry on her silence over Brand, several of the singer's fans rushed to her defense.
'Katy Perry isn’t responsible for Russell Brand’s actions'
X, formerly Twitter, user @/_celia_bedelia, wrote, "Gonna remind everyone that Katy Perry isn’t responsible for Russell Brand’s actions."
"Or speaking to them. Or even having to warn everyone about him. It is not her responsibility to answer for his atrocities," they said.
"I’m seeing a lot of people saying she’s just as bad as him and like…what the actual f**k is WRONG with y’all that you immediately need to blame a woman for the actions of a bad man," the user argued.
"Also, he literally ended their married by…texting her that he wanted a divorce. And that was it," they recalled.
"He treated her like sh*t too. Please remember that when you’re attempting to paint her as complicit or bad," the user mentioned.
The user also defended Perry's past comment of knowing the "real truth" about Brand and keeping it "locked in my safe" during a 2013 Vogue interview, after their divorce.
"FYI: Katy Perry not telling a vogue writer in 2013 about what happened to her doesn’t mean sh*t so stop using that quote about her divorce as some kind of gotcha for her not speaking out," the user said.
"She was pretty clear she realized later the kind of person he was. READ BETWEEN THE LINES," they explained.
"It’s actually a *good* thing Katy Perry didn’t use her experience being married to Russell Brand (which was objectively BAD!) as a basis for his history of sexual assault," the user mentioned.
"It doesn’t mean anything because sh**ty men don’t assault everyone they know - and usually not their wives," they concluded.
In another tweet, the user clarified, "Hi Everyone! I didn’t say anything else about Katy Perry other than she has nothing to answer for re: Russell Brand. You don’t have to tell me about why she’s *also* bad."
Other fans also came to Perry's defense after user Celia's lengthy thread. "It never dawned on me that someone would say that, but of course they will. Ugh," one wrote.
"And we all know what would've happened to her if she'd said anything," they added.
"Why has everyone decided that when she says she put something to the back of her mind that she’s talking about him assaulting other women? It could be so many other things, and is more likely those things," one commented.
"I don’t imagine he told her or she saw him assaulting women? Weird," the user added.
"Especially if it was an industry secret, as the article alleges. Why is it on her and not on every other industry insider that kept quiet?!" one fan asked.
"We have no idea what he put her through," another commented.
One said, "The person she saw was probably very unlike the person he showed his abusers. The latter is who he truly is"
They added, "The former is the character he adopts to give himself cover when a victim comes forward."
Another fan mentioned, "It's so bizarre that people are demanding her to answer for his crimes when he is her ex. They're divorced, why does she have to be his keeper? Newsflash, she doesn't!"
"If there’s a way to blame a woman, they’ll find it," one replied.
How long were Katy Perry and Russell Brand married?
Perry was just 25 years old when she met the 35-year-old Brand while filming a cameo appearance for his film 'Get Him to the Greek' in 2009.
The duo reportedly started dating after their paths crossed once again later that year at the MTV Video Music Awards, per Hello Magazine.
Brand reportedly proposed to Perry while on December 31, 2009, while vacationing in India.
The couple eventually tied the knot at the Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary in Rajasthan, India on October 23, 2010, wearing traditional Indian outfits.
However, just 14 months after the wedding, Brand reportedly filed for divorce from Perry.
As per The Independent, Perry told Vogue in 2013, that Brand informed her about the divorce over a text message on December 31, 2011, before she was set to be onstage for a performance.
The moment was even documented in the 2012 documentary, 'Katy Perry: Part of Me'.
"He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him," the 'Roar' hitmaker said back in 2013.
"Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011," she added at the time.
"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends," Brand said in a statement to People during their divorce.

Perry's cryptic comments on Brand from her 2013 Vogue interview resurfaced and went viral after the allegations against the latter.
"I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day," the singer said at the time.
"I let go and I was like: This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that," she added.
While Perry did not elaborate on the "real truth," she said Brand did not like her being the "boss." She also described him as "very controlling" in the interview, per New York Post.
What did Russell Brand say about his marriage to Katy Perry?
Brand reflected on his marriage with Perry during an episode of 'Running Wild with Bear Grylls', earlier this year.
"She's an amazing person," he said of the 'American Idol' judge. "It was kind of incredible to live for a moment in that eye of the cyclone type aspect of fame," Brand shared.
"Aside from my sort of feelings of affection for Katy, it's a time that I remember has been a little bit chaotic and a bit for me... a little disconnected," he mentioned.
