CULVER CITY, CALIFORNIA: 'Jeopardy!' contestants are known to carry quirks that are beyond their ability to excel at trivia. They often have different talents that you would not expect of a trivia champ and even more interesting stories from their personal lives. And host Ken Jennings ensured the game show fans knew of this unique story behind a contestant's name.
Nik Berry revealed that his parents named him after the furniture brand IKEA's shelf. Jennings found it exceedingly funny and even proceeded to make an NSFW in the conversation he was having with Berry.
'Jeopardy!' contestant Nik Berry's name origin story
During the interview round, the conversation around Berry's name came up. The 49-year-old host asked the contestant, "Now, I know a lot of Niks but you might be the only one who's named after...what?" Berry went on to reveal that he was named after a piece of furniture from an IKEA store.
"Well, my parents wanted an alternate spelling of Nikolas, so they went with N-i-k-a-l-s," he started, "because when they were shopping at IKEA before my birth, they saw a shelf called "The Niklas." Jennings couldn't help but chuckle at that.
"But I got off better than my brother who they were going to name Narvik," Berry continued, "So it'd be Nik and Vik."
Ken Jennings makes NSFW implications
Host Jennings could not let the opportunity go of making an NSFW joke based on the whole conversation behind Berry's name. He went on to comment, "I'm sure every kid would like to know where in the IKEA showroom he was conceived."
The official 'Jeopardy!' Twitter account made further comment on his racy joke as they tweeted the video clip saying, "Where their NAME was conceived, Ken. Their n a m e." It seems that Jennings might have missed out on a little context in what he was saying as Jerry's parents were only implied to have gotten inspiration from the furniture store. It's also possible that it was a mistake on his part as Jennings avoids making any such comments while he is on the Alex Trebek stage.
