The controversial moment unfolded when IShowSpeed directed his attention toward an Asian fan proudly donning an Argentina jersey. In a video clip, he can be heard questioning the fan's choice of attire, seemingly implying that the individual did not appear to be Argentinian based on their appearance. Speed asks why he was wearing the gear. He shouted, "Konnichiwa," a formal way of saying "hello" in Japanese, several times at the fan. In response, the fan tried to explain that he was Chinese and not Japanese. At this point, Speed starts rambling some nonsense in an ethnic accent.
The episode came across as insensitive and racist, drawing sharp criticism from viewers and fans alike. As the video circulated online, many people expressed their disappointment and concern over Speed's behavior.
'What casual racism towards Asians look like'
In response to the episode, a user wrote, "This is a prime example of the what casual racism towards Asians looks like and it most often downplayed as a “joke” without realizing the harmful consequences of it. Assuming the country an Asian person is from, assuming their language and even mocking it is not funny. It’s racist," while another wrote, "Bro does not care about getting cancelled AT ALL." A third user wrote, "I am convinced most streamers are either horny, racist, cheating or liars this is mad crazy." A fourth quipped, "This loser keeps hitting new lows. Racist," while another irate user wrote, "Eww bruh"
