HENDERSON, NEVADA: Authorities reportedly searched a property in Las Vegas on Monday night in connection with the murder of Tupac Shakur. Las Vegas police said in a statement, "LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation. We will have no further comment at this time."
An official revealed that Las Vegas homicide detectives and prosecutors had decided they had sufficient information to move forward with a court-authorized search. The search was carried out around 10 pm local time with Las Vegas Metro PD SWAT on the scene. Police reportedly utilized bullhorns and lights, and the scene was noisy. Computers, laptops, and publications concerning Tupac and his death were among the things that the detectives were looking for. A Las Vegas grand jury is now hearing the case's evidence, as reported by ABC News.
Tupac's killing
The renowned hip-hop musician was shot in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, and died from his wounds six days later in the hospital. He was just 25 years old. The day before he was killed, Tupac and Suge Knight had gone to a boxing bout in Vegas. He was traveling in a black vehicle on Las Vegas Boulevard when a white Cadillac approached and started firing. There haven't been any arrests in the case. Rapper Christopher Wallace, also known as Notorious BIG, was shot dead in Los Angeles a few months later, on March 9, 1997. It is assumed that the incident, which hasn't been solved, was related to Tupac's slaying.
'It's late in the game'
Regarding the current investigation, Pac's stepbrother Mopreme said, "I'm really not impressed with this late-in-the-game effort. Though I appreciate it, it's late in the game. Las Vegas nor New York have done any significant investigation so far that we can see ... so everyone stay tuned, let's see what happens. I'm surprised like everyone else." On the other hand, a representative of Tupac's sister, Set, informed that the family is learning about the development of the case at the same time as the rest of the world. She said, "We are learning about the case the same way you are and have nothing to say."
Is the case close to getting solved?
There are no pending charges in the current investigation. The probe is expected to last several weeks to months. According to investigators' long-held theory, the shooter is most likely already dead, having been the victim of a different shooting two years after the drive-by shooting in Vegas. However, the ongoing inquiry could shed light on the individual who was with the shooter in the automobile when the fatal shots were fired at Tupac. That said, no decisions have been taken on charges as yet, the official clarified.
Why has the probe gained fresh traction?
After more than 20 years of inactivity, the Tupac investigation acquired fresh traction in 2018, the official told ABC News. Detectives got back on the case after Netflix's 'Unsolved: The Tupac and Biggie Murders' premiered in 2018. In 2019, Duane Keith Davis, alias Keffe D, published 'Compton Street Legend', claiming to be one of only two surviving eyewitnesses to the incident.
