LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears reportedly believes her ex-husband, Sam Asghari, was "secretly working" with her father, Jamie, giving him information that would have kept her in the conservatorship.
After 13 months, Asghari filed for divorce from Spears earlier in Suagust. Sources close to the pop star now claimed that she had serious doubts about the marriage long before they officially split, per the Daily Mail.
Sources claimed Spears had grown suspicious that Jamie had been working with Asghari, whom she started dating five years before the conservatorship ended, to get personal information about her life.
Sources alleged, "Britney has reason to believe that Sam was secretly working with her dad Jamie since early on in their relationship."
They further claimed, "Sam would supply information to Jamie that would help to keep her locked in the conservatorship."
They added, "In exchange, Sam was given access to her and her money. Britney now feels like Sam was being deceitful all along."
When did Sam Asghari and Britney Spears meet?
Asghari and Spears became Instagram official on December 28, 2016, less than two months after they first met on the set of her 'Slumber Party' music video.
At the time, Jamie was in total control of Spears' life, including her finances, career and daily activities.
Asghari was welcomed into the Spears family, who were not at that point estranged, despite the fact that the pop star's circle was limited to her dancers and other professionals.
He accompanied them on their trips and family gatherings.
Asghari's acting career has taken off in the time since he first met Spears. Prior to the announcement of their relationship, he had just one acting credit, a cameo in a Fifth Harmony music video.
He has since been cast in a number of films and TV shows, with his most recent appearance being in the Paramount+ 'Special Ops: Lioness' with Nicole Kidman.
Why did Britney Spears and Sam Asghari split?
An insider claimed that while his career flourished, his marriage to Spears deteriorated, adding that the singer's "unhappiness" actually led her to end the marriage "months" before Asghari formally filed for divorce.
Sources said, "Britney was done with Sam months ago and was very unhappy."
"There were plans in place to set Sam up with his own place and give him money to live on so that it would be amicable," they added.
It was only in 2021 that Spears revealed how the conservatorship controlled her life.
She said that the conservatorship prevented her from getting married to Asghari, in addition to shocking accusations of abuse by her father.
She claimed that she was forced to wear a IUD device to prevent a pregnancy.
Asghari voiced his opposition to the conservatorship after her admission, which was supported by the #freebritney movement.
Sporting a #freebritney shirt, Asghari told his Instagram followers that Jamie was a "d****" and that he tried to "control" their relationship.
He said at that time, "I won't be going into details because I've always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn't come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom."
Citing "irreconcilable differences," Asghari filed for divorce on August 16. He thought Spears had cheated on him, according to TMZ.
During their seven years together, Asghari allegedly told friends that Spears would physically assault him.
