MALIBU, CALIFORNIA: Actress Rosanna Arquette reportedly lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a Malibu retail center early on Tuesday, July 11. The 'Nowhere to Run' actress, 63, was involved in the collision after passing through Point Dume Village, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office verified to The New York Post.
Officials further confirmed that there was no evidence of drug- or alcohol-related impairment. Fox News was the first to confirm Arquette's involvement in the collision on Thursday, reporting that "it appeared that she had possibly lost control of her vehicle" according to a deputy with the Malibu/Lost Hills station.
Is Rosanna Arquette OK?
The driver was attempting to park, a Los Angeles fire captain told the Malibu Times on Tuesday, but instead of backing out, the car moved forward and destroyed three pillars supporting the roof next to the restaurant Lily's Malibu. No pedestrians were hurt, and it didn't seem like the 'Pulp Fiction' actress was hurt either.
Arquette was rushed to the hospital for safety reasons. "She was a little shook up about what happened," Captain Mike Rivera said to the outlet. The nearby businesses had to close as authorities tried to determine whether the building was secure, according to the newspaper.
"It was unknown exactly what happened" during the crash, said the captain. "Instead of backing out, [her vehicle] went forward, and took out three pillard’s [sic] that support the roof, luckily no one was injured, we had two tables nearby but luckily no one was sitting there. Right now we’re just waiting for engineering to come out to deem the building safe and make sure it’s safe," added Rivera, as per Fox News.
'Arquette was desperately seeking Susan'
Meanwhile, diverse viewpoints were expressed on the internet. A fan wrote in reference to Arquette's film 'Desperately Seeking Susan', "I believe the crash occurred because Arquette was desperately seeking Susan." "Missed by just that much," wrote another.
One user recalled the Anne Heche incident and noted, "Anne Heche style?" "Was she in a movie about people that got off by crashing their cars?" asked another.
Arquette portrayed a fetishist crash victim in David Cronenberg's 'Crash', which was adapted from the JG Ballard novel about those who derive sexual gratification from car crashes. "Ironically her career crashed 30 years ago same day," claimed another. Some speculated Rosanna was drunk with a user claiming, "I bet she was drunk!" "Sad to see the impact on a beloved restaurant that is now closed until studies as to stability are completed. Lily's breakfast burritos are standard apres surf fare, place is always busy and continually a fav with locals," remarked another.
Police have stated that the reason of the collision is "pending an investigation."
