BUDAPEST, HUNGARY: Johnny Depp recently came under scrutiny after The Hollywood Vampires canceled their show in Budapest at the last minute citing "unforeseen circumstances", leaving fans queuing outside the venue disheartened and disappointed. While no specific reason behind the cancelation was confirmed, the update came just a few days after Depp was seen walking with a crutch outside his hotel in Scotland.
The sighting left several fans wondering whether the show was canceled due to Depp's health issues. However, shortly after the cancelation, a photo of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star allegedly drinking an hour before canceling the concert went viral online, prompting several fans to call out the actor. The image shared by Twitter user @/cocainecross showed Depp holding what seemingly looks like a red paper cup.
Meanwhile, another Twitter user @wls_almostthere pointed out that the Budapest show was allegedly the fourth "concert cancelled due to Johnny Depp." "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Vampires will be cancelling tonight’s show in Budapest. All tickets (general and VIP, including meet & greet) will be refunded in full. We love and appreciate all of the fans who traveled from near and far to see us rise, and we’re truly sorry," the statement from the band read.
Is Johnny Depp really unwell?
The cancelation of the latest Hollywood Vampires concert and the photo of Depp allegedly drinking on the streets made people question the truth behind the actor's alleged health issues as no official statement about his illness or current health status has been made available to the public so far. However, last week, Depp was seen using a crutch as a walking aid while leaving his Glashow hotel to take perform during a concert with The Hollywood Vampires.
It was previously announced that Depp suffered a "painful" ankle injury and was given a warning by health professionals to "take it easy," The Mirror reported. The 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' star also postponed multiple gigs in May due to the condition. He also took to Instagram to update fans about his condition and wrote, "My dear friends, I am sorry to say that I have fractured my ankle, which is a drag!!! It began as a hairline break but somewhere between Cannes and the Royal Albert Hall, it got worse rather than better."
He further added, "Several medical professionals have strongly suggested I avoid any and all activity for the moment and so am sadly unable to travel at this time." Another statement about the injury was also shared on The Hollywood Vampires' Instagram account. "Johnny has sustained a painful injury to his ankle following his recent appearances and has been advised by his doctor not to travel. He is devastated by this turn of events, but looks forward to resting up so all four Vampires can bring their absolute best to the tour in Europe," the statement read.
Depp has also been open about his past struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. During his 2020 defamation trial against News Group Newspapers, it was revealed Depp was diagnosed with "primary dopamine imbalance, depression, chronic substance abuse disorder and nicotine addiction." Speaking at the court at the time, the actor said, "I have been open about my challenges with alcoholism and addiction throughout my life. I started drinking and taking drugs when I was still a child. I am not in any way embarrassed to say this."
Speaking to the Boston Globe in 2008, Depp opened up about what led him to consume drugs. "I felt I could only be myself when I was alone, that I turned into some kind of novelty. The only way I could get through that time was to drink." As per The Mirror, Depp was also diagnosed with depression and chronic substance abuse while he battled to get sober. He was also allegedly diagnosed with ADHD.
'He likely passed out again'
Several social media users took to Twitter to call out Depp over the alleged drinking photos and the last-minute cancelation of The Hollywood Vampires' concert. "Here’s Johnny Depp drinking an hour before cancelling his concert due to 'unforeseen circumstances.' He likely passed out again," wrote the user who shared the images on Twitter. "Before they come for me, it was confirmed by the photographer. they claim he 'fell ill at the hotel' even though he was drinking right before the alleged illness," the person added in another tweet.
"Tickets will be refunded but what about travel expenses, hotels? What a bummer for the fans," one complained. "'Fell ill.' Sure, that can happen when someone daydrinks in a heat wave. Shocker," another added. "This is the 4th concert cancelled due to Johnny Depp. There was also a recent meet and greet cancelled due to “a bus breaking down and one member was late” The man is unhirable and uninsurable," a third tweeted. One asked, "Fell ill or fell over drunk/high?" One more asked, "'Ill'? is that what they’re calling it now?"
