LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The beloved ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise, which combines action, adventure and archaeology in a thrilling package, is all geared up to release its fifth and final installment, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’, on June 30. Additionally, it was reported last year that a Disney+ spinoff series was in the works. However, Ford will not be involved in a potential streaming series.
Why is ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ the final chapter of the franchise?
The fifth movie of the franchise, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’, once again follows the adventurer Harrison Ford's archaeological quests. After 15 years, the world’s most famous action-adventurer movie is returning and is expected to end the series with a final bang. The director James Mangold said he was “proud” to return to the Cannes festival for the premiere of the Hollywood blockbuster adding, “In 1995, I was honored to come to Cannes with my first film as part of Director’s Fortnite. Twenty-eight years later, I am proud to return with a slightly larger spectacle. My legendary collaborators and I are very excited to share a brand new and final Indiana Jones adventure with you!”
‘It was a joyous moment for me’
In an interview with Total Film, the 80-year-old icon confirmed Disney’s announcement that this film will be his last as Indiana Jones. He revealed, “This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I’ll play the character. I anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a film.” He then said, “I had been ambitious to do this film for 10 years, and there finally came a time when we all committed to that.” He continued to explain his commitment and how the franchise made him feel, “It was a joyous moment for me. I think it’s a rare situation that I find myself in. I’ve been able to deliver amazing films developed by Steven [Spielberg] and George [Lucas] over a 40-year period, and to end it not with a whimper, but a bang, has been my greatest ambition for this excursion”. Additionally, he also talked about Disney+ and their plan to develop a TV series around the character, stating that he would not be involved in that even “if it does come to fruition”.
