LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: On Friday, August 11, 2023, ‘The View’ celebrated its 26 years of being on-air. A talk show that Barbara Walters once started in 1997, has now become a part of everyone’s day-to-day life.
The original line-up of ‘The View’ consisted of Walters, Joy Behar, Meredith Vieira, Debbie Matenopoulos, and Star Jones. Now, out of them all, only Behar remains on the existing panel as Season 26 comes to an end.
Behar is joined by Alyssa Farah Griffin, Whoopi Goldberg, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines, and together, they have garnered a huge fan following and viewership.
However, as ‘The View’ took to Instagram to celebrate 26 years, several people expressed their disappointment towards the talk show.
‘The View’ grateful to 'loyal viewers'
‘The View’ posted a throwback picture from the talk show, along with a quote from Walters that best described what the show has been all about all these decades.
The caption read, “6 YEARS AGO TODAY! ✨ “I’ve always wanted to do a show with women of different generations, backgrounds, and views,” the late Barbara Walters said on our first show on August 11, 1997.
She further added, “This is that show. We call it ‘The View.’” Thank you to our loyal viewers for joining us every morning — see you soon for season 27!”
Despite this emotional post from ‘The View,’ fans didn’t respond too well in the comment section as they expressed their thoughts on how the talk show isn’t how it once used to be.
Internet slams 'The View'
People did not hold back when it came to talking about ‘The View’ as one fan wrote, “Too bad it turned into a heap of garbage,” and another said, “That’s when the show was good. Barbara Walters, Meredith Viera…”
Of course, politics was mentioned as one person wrote, “I loved this show when it wasn’t about politics.”
Some have reminisced over the earlier seasons of the talk show as one person commented, “And it used to be a good show. 20 years ago."
Another said, “This period is when there were classy ladies on the show. Now they are all a bunch of bullies.”
Viewers have taken the time to explain what went wrong as one fan wrote, “It was far better back then! The respect that they showed each other and other points of view far surpasses the table today."
The user further added, "Today it’s just a bunch of angry ladies spewing hate. It’s unfortunate, as a young adult the view was wonderful in helping me see different points of view.”
