LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: One of the producers of Britney Spears’s hit ‘Don’t Hang Up’ has claimed that the song is about the Pop Princess’s brief love affair with 'Hollywood’s bad boy’ Colin Farrell. The ‘Oops…I Did It Again’ singer’s racy phone calls with ‘The Gentlemen’ actor set the premise of the song, claims producer Joshua Schwartz.
Schwartz, who helped Spears in co-creating the song for her album ‘In The Zone’, told 'The Original Doll' podcast, “That song was about phone sex,” per The Sun. He continued, “She went on a dating spree and started seeing Colin Farrell.”
However, Schwartz also conceded that the affair wasn’t very serious, saying, “I remember her talking about how she’s on the phone with him all the time so I think that’s where it kind of came from,” before remarking, “It wasn’t anything like too deep.”

In 2003, the ‘Toxic’ singer had a brief affair with the Oscar-nominated Irish actor. It is said that the duo reportedly went on just one date. Per IrishCentral, Farrell said during that time he was “just a 26-year-old guy who's single and having a good time." The Grammy-winning singer was 21 years old then.
It is also rumored that the actor gifted Spears a bumper sticker that said “Honk if you’ve slept with Colin Farrell.” It is also said that the ‘Phone Booth’ actor tried to make amends later where he admitted he was wild in his younger days, per The Sun.
It is, however, not proven whether he actually gave the sticker to Spears. An insider told The Sun in May that Spears will be revealing her affair with Farrell in her upcoming memoir.
The source said, “Britney has worked her way through the extraordinarily emotional challenges and troubles of her life in the 2000s for the book,” before adding, “Those were especially tough recollections and challenging days to cover those experiences.”
“But during those heady days, Britney also had many other adventures as a single woman, including that experience with Colin,” reported the source before revealing the ‘Toxic’ singer is keen on dishing out the details of her affair with Farrell.
"And she is keen to get her time with Colin laid down on paper and presented from her perspective. She has been wanting to set the record straight for a long time,” said the source and explained, “At that time, he was the hottest young actor in Hollywood, and she was swept away by the romance of him taking a shine to her.”
“People forget that then she was not that experienced with boys or the dating game, so when they had their fling, she was taken aback by how nonchalant and disconnected he was,” the source continued.

While the brief affair allegedly produced a memorable song, the relationship also allegedly shocked the young songstress. The insider added that the 'Circus' singer was "deeply annoyed" by one of Farrell's purported antics.
The insider added, "She was shocked at how he treated it all like a joke. And when the car sticker came through, she was deeply annoyed and also angered,” before continuing, “She hated the fact that some people were laughing at her.”
The source also talked about Farrell’s insistence on making peace, “Colin did try and make peace later, trying to explain his over-the-top behavior was down to his own life issues and battles with drugs and temptation,” before adding however, “But Britney will get the final word.”
