NASHVILLE, TENESSEE: Maren Morris, 33, is the proud mother of a three-year-old son named Hayes Andrew Hurd who she shares with her estranged musician husband Ryan Hurd, 36.
The couple who got married in 2018 welcomed their only child Hayes in 2020.
Why did Maren Morris file for divorce from Ryan Hurd?
The country singer filed for divorce from Hurd on October 2 citing “irreconcilable differences,” per the court documents obtained by Us Weekly.
While she is yet to speak about the shocking decision, a source close to the mother-of-one revealed to Daily Mail that she decided to put a plug on her marriage to find her “true self.”
According to the source, Morris suffered postpartum depression following the birth of her son Hayes through an emergency C-section during the Covid pandemic in 2020.
The source revealed that Morris journeyed through an “up-and-down ride” and decided to opt for the split to “focus on her well-being, her son, and her life.”
The source said, “The last few years have been an up-and-down ride for Maren” before adding, “Maren is a brutally honest person with herself, with her career, and when others don't share her advocacy or how to treat people, it really hurts her heart.”
They continued to shed light on her mental health struggle during the pandemic saying, “Covid affected people in different ways. She had a child during that time, it was a difficult pregnancy, she was dealing with postpartum and her mental health, and it changed her routine with her music career, her touring, her writing.”
While the relationship of Morris and Hurd was initially getting “stronger,” the nature of it was changing owing to her evolution.
“As much as her relationship with Ryan got stronger, it also became different because Maren was changing into the woman she is today. She grew apart from Ryan, and for her to fully be her true self, she had to do it this way – focus on her well-being, her son, and her life,” said the source.
The insider, however, made it a point to note that there was “no cheating, infidelity or anything like that.”
While the estranged couple will continue to co-parent their son, the source claimed she is no longer in love anymore, “They are going to continue to co-parent. Maren thinks Ryan is a great dad – but she just isn't in love with him romantically anymore.”
The 33-year-old allegedly wants to reclaim her life as the source added, “She's lived a lot of life for 33 years and now wants to get to a place where she can enjoy things on her terms.”
The source further divulged that Hurd is “heartbroken,” as they quipped, “Ryan still loves Maren and is not taking the divorce that well. He is heartbroken.”
Maren Morris talks about ‘identity crises’
In December 2022, Morris shared her views on postpartum depression and “identity crises” after childbirth, per PEOPLE.
Per the Mayo Clinic, Postpartum depression is a condition experienced by many new mothers that typically “include mood swings, crying spells, anxiety and difficulty sleeping.” It usually begins two to three days after the delivery and can continue up to a week or two.
During her interview with Willie Geist on ‘Sunday Today’, Morris talked about battling postpartum depression along with dealing with the quarantine situation, "I think a lot of identity crises happened there.”
She explained, "Not just being a new parent and a new mother and dealing with postpartum depression for the first time, and reeling from that, and trying to like find the forest through the trees. But also just knowing my worth without someone clapping for me."
She said that Hurd helped her navigate through the depression, saying, "He kind of just helped me in song form, and in just conversation form, figure out how to get to the light.”
