Hugh Grant criticised by dwarf actor over Wonka role: "We are being pushed out of the industry"
An actor with dwarfism has hit out at the new film Wonka for casting Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa. George Coppen, 26, said the part should have been offered to an actor with the condition because there is already a shortage of appropriate roles for people with dwarfism. The upcoming movie will focus on the life of Willy Wonka, the mysterious character at the centre of the Roald Dahl novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, played by Timothee Chalamet. It features Grant as an Oompa Loompa trapped inside a jar. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter In previous versions of the story based on Roald Dahl's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the characters were played by actors with dwarfism. Coppen, whose father played an Ewok in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, said: “A lot of actors [with dwarfism] feel like we are being pushed out of the industry we love. “A lot of people, myself included, argue that dwarfs should be offered everyday roles in dramas and soaps, but we aren’t getting offered those roles.” In the trailer, Grant’s character is seen saying: “I will have you know that I am a perfectly respectable size for an Oompa Loompa."Wonka replies: “An Oompa what now?” The Oompa Loopma says: “Allow me to refresh your memory.” “Oh, I don't think I want to hear that,” Wonka says. “Too late,” the Oompa Loompa answers. “I’ve started dancing now. Once we’ve started we can’t stop.” People commented on Grant’s role on Twitter. One person wrote: “Hugh Grant is definitely in his IDGAF [I don’t give a f***] era, every decision this man makes is insane and I love it.” Another wrote: “Thought another Wonka movie was unnecessary but now I'm sold, give me more Oompa Loompa Hugh Grant”. Wonka’s release date is 15 December 2023. Have your say in our news democracy. Click the upvote icon at the top of the page to help raise this article through the indy100 rankings.

Planet of the Bass: How to listen to the full song
Planet of the Bass, the parody track that went viral from a TikTok clip to become the song of the summer, has now been released in full and here’s how to listen to it. Comedian Kyle Gordon caught the attention of TikTokers with his Eurodance parody track 'Planet of the Bass' as the character DJ Crazy Times. The catchy song has all the classic hallmarks of Eurodance music that was prominent in the 90s from the likes of bands such as Aqua, Vengaboys and La Bouche. It features an upbeat tempo, a lot of synths and grammatically incorrect lyrics such as, “Life, it never die. Women are my favourite guy”. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Gordon, aka DJ Crazy Times, voices the hilariously accurate male vocalist with a raspy monotone voice that throws in random ad-libs. Meanwhile, Ms. Biljana Electronica, the name of the female vocalist, sings the rest of the track. On TikTok, the original clip has now been viewed 8.4 million times. @kylegordonisgreat Planet of the Bass (feat. The full song begins with DJ Crazy Times announcing, “Alert! Alert! DJ Crazy Times. If you want parties to be making, have some noise,” before proclaiming, “Oh, I’ve got an idea… world peace”. One person wrote on X: “I am inordinately psyched for this.” “I am extremely ready,” another said. Gordon revealed he has also shot a brand new music video that is yet to drop. Fans are excited to see who will be playing Ms. Biljana Electronica, as the female vocalist has noticeably changed in every new clip that has been released in a funny nod to the fickle 90s genre. Khloe Kardashian posts cryptic messages after Kylie Jenner spotted with Jordyn Woods
Khloe Kardashian turned to Instagram with a series of poignant quotes following Kylie Jenner and Jordyn Woods' dinner catch-up. On Sunday (16 July), the two former best friends were spotted leaving a restaurant in Los Angeles alongside two security men. To recap, Woods was outed back in 2019 for kissing Kardashian's baby father and serial cheat, Tristan Thompson. Woods admitted to kissing him at a party, but shut down any rumours there was any form of romance between the pair. Shortly after paparazzi footage of Jenner and Woods circulated online, Kardashian – who is known to post frequent quotes on Instagram – took to her Stories with three more. One read: "Never blame anyone in your life. The good people give you happiness. The bad people give you experience. The worst people give you a lesson..." "The best people give you memories". Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Her second Instagram Story upload said: "It takes grace to remain kind in cruel situations." Meanwhile, the third showed a quote by Doe Zantamata: "It's easy to judge. It's more difficult to understand. Understanding requires compassion, patience and a willingness to believe that good hearts sometimes choose poor methods... "Through judging, we separate. Through understanding, we grow". Following the reunion, a source told People their friendship was on the mend when Woods reached out to Jenner. "Jordyn reached out to Kylie to apologise for how everything went down and let her know that she loves her," the source allegedly said. A separate person close to them said weekend's encounter wasn't the first time they'd met up. It was the first time they had been spotted in public. The pair have allegedly been working on their friendship off-camera. Have your say in our news democracy.
