LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Good Morning America’ recently had the accomplished model and television host, Padma Lakshmi, as one of the guests in their special segments.
The 52-year-old Indian American actress is renowned for her modeling career and also as the long-serving host of the reality cooking show ‘Top Chef’.
Lakshmi confirmed on ‘GMA’ that she has indeed quit the Emmy-winning series after presiding over 19 successful seasons.
Lakshmi’s decision wasn’t well received, especially by ‘GMA’ host Robin Roberts who turned out to be an ardent fan of the model.
The 62-year-old expressed her disappointment with Lakshmi’s decision, saying, “I can’t even look at you,” before beginning her interview with the former 'Top Chef' host.
Padma Lakshmi wanted a 'change' from 'Top Chef'
‘GMA’ had invited the TV personality and international cuisine expert Padma Lakshmi to talk about her experiences as the host of ‘Top Chef’ and Hulu’s ‘Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi.’
However, Robin Roberts was extremely surprised at her decision to leave ‘Top Chef’. Lakshmi had first spoken about leaving the show in June. But it seems Roberts is still not over the news.
During the broadcast, Lakshmi revealed that though it was tough to quit ‘Top Chef’ after 19 long seasons, there was still something that she will not miss about hosting the show.
“I'll miss almost everybody because they're like family. But what I won't miss is the copious amounts of food in a very short time. I know it's a high-class problem to have, but it can feel really uncomfortable, the long hours, eating all that food. I will not miss it.”
Lakshmi further revealed that she wanted a “change” and hence the decision to quit the show was born. She also addressed that she had "no idea" that Top Chef would become a "pop culture phenomenon.”
“Think about when we started, it’s such an institution, and I'm proud to have built that with the rest of my crew. I just needed a change.”
All three ‘GMA’ hosts return after long absences
Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan all returned to ‘GMA’ this week after a brief hiatus from the show.
The episode on Monday, August 14, was the first show that all three hosts appeared in together since earlier this summer.
George did not disclose his whereabouts but Michael and Robin kept their fans updated about their movements on social media.
While Robin attended a Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees dinner with partner Amber Laign, Michael was busy promoting his personal business venture, a new clothing line, and spending time with his dog.
In their absence, Whit Johnson, Rebecca Jarvis, and Eva Pilgrim took charge of the ‘GMA’ studio desk on the weekdays.
