SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: The worldwide monstrous hit show ‘Squid Game’ will be returning for a second season soon. Netflix has devoted all resources to the same and recently, the name of Im Si-wan, the member of South Korean boy band ZE:A is linked to the show. The 34-year-old is reportedly a cast member of the second season of the survival drama television series and is expected to star alongside Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun.
The exciting news has left the ardent fans of Im Si-wan in a frenzy but the US streaming giant has issued no official confirmation regarding it. The second season of ‘Squid Game’ is expected to have a production cost of close to $78.6 million and the team behind the show is working extremely hard to keep the budgetary costs to a minimum. Adding a star with a high fee bracket may not be the ideal solution and with only a year left to release the show, things are slowly heating up.
Netflix and Im Si-wan’s agency issues a statement
After the news of Im Si-wan’s joining the cast of ‘Squid Game 2’ broke out, Netflix went straight to work and cleared the air. In an official statement, the streaming platform said, “There is nothing we can confirm related to the casting for Squid Game season two. We cannot say anything.” Im Si-wan’s agency, PLUM A&C which represents him wasn’t behind and seconded Netflix’s statement. "We cannot confirm anything about the reports. Please understand."
Im Si-wan recently starred in the drama 'Summer Strike' as well as the film 'Unlocked'. The ZE:A member is also currently gearing up for the release of his film 'Road to Boston'. Even though the news of Im Si-wan joining ‘Squid Game 2’ isn’t yet confirmed, fans of the K-pop singer were over the moon and desperately wanted the news to be true.
‘I would 100% watch if this is true’
Fans of Im Si-wan took to Twitter to show their heaps of love and praise for the pop star. One fan wrote, "Never cared to watch Squid Game but Siwon is amazing so I would 100% watch if this is true!” Another knew that he will now have to watch the show, “Well now I have to watch squid games.” There was a fan who said, “Yes. Siwan always nails it,” while the other in all caps enthusiastically said, “WE ALL MOVED.” Most importantly, one fan summed it all up with, “If you do not know who this man is, don’t worry he will not disappoint.”
