WASHINGTON, DC: CNN political commentator Van Jones didn't hold back when discussing the potential re-election of 80-year-old President Joe Biden.
According to Jones, it's like giving "grandpa a high-stress job for six more years."
Jones, who formerly advised President Barack Obama, cited a recent CNN poll revealing Biden's approval rating had plummeted to just 39%.
Concerns about Biden's age and mental sharpness are reportedly becoming increasingly prevalent among voters.
Van Jones sounds the alarm on Joe Biden
During an episode of 'CNN This Morning', co-host Poppy Harlow raised recent comments by former Obama aide Jim Messina.
Messina, in an unfiltered assessment, described Democrats as "f**king bedwetters" for their reactions to unfavorable poll results.
Jones didn't shy away from commenting on this, stating, "If Jim Messina says that we're bedwetters, invest in Pampers and Depends because a lot of people are terrified that Joe Biden is in real trouble and that you can't talk about it."
Acknowledging Messina's point, Jones noted, "It may, in fact, be true that a year from now, things look very different because there's been a year of a real campaign, and all this kind of stuff."
"But right now, today," Jones continued, "I think a lot of Democrats look at these numbers and say the whispers are finally showing up in this data," referring to the CNN poll.
Jones painted a vivid picture, comparing Biden to a beloved grandparent: "They worry about Joe Biden. Joe Biden's like that grandpa that you love, that you believe in."
He posed a thought-provoking question: "But you start to wonder, you know, would you give this grandpa a high-stress job for six more years or would you want something else for him?"
Jones also raised the possibility that the latest poll numbers "may be the bottom for Joe Biden."
He speculated, "He may go up as the economy improves, but right now, the economy is getting better and fears about the economy are getting worse."
Addressing the challenges within the Democratic base, Jones urged honesty, saying, "We've got to be honest as Democrats that there's real pain out there at the base of our party."
"People still don't feel these [economic] policies yet, and we're gonna have to make the case stronger," he emphasized.
The CNN poll also contained concerning findings, including the fact that former President Donald Trump would narrowly beat Biden in a general election rematch, with 47% to 46%.
The poll suggested that Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and US ambassador to the UN under Trump, would beat Biden 49% to 43%.
Notably, the poll indicated that most Americans believed Biden was involved in his son's foreign business dealings while he was vice president and that he acted inappropriately during the investigation into his son's controversies, per the New York Post.
Van Jones applauded on social media
Van Jones was hailed on social media, with many appreciating his candidness.
"I actually liked something Van Jones said and think it should resonate if Biden's campaign uses it. In reference to why people aren't feeling Biden's successes, he said it's the check engine light. We're afraid we can't even afford to run the test to find out why the light is on," one Twitter user posted.
"I think it's great that Van Jones is speaking out about the need for younger leadership in our country. Biden is a great man, but he's 80 years old and it's time for a new generation of leaders to take over," another offered.
"He actually says things based in reality sometimes," a comment read.
"Van Jones isn't always honest, but when he is, I appreciate it," someone else chimed in.
"I guess he finally woke up and smelled the roses!" another wrote.
