LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s relationship may have turned sour following their divorce and messy custody battle as well as the ongoing legal fight over the stakes of their Chateau Miraval French winery but the duo was once known as one of Hollywood’s power couples. The pair, dubbed “Brangelina” by the press, fell in love sometime around 2005 and announced their engagement in April 2012 after seven years together.
The duo walked down the aisle in 2014 but Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016. The ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’ costars were both declared legally single in 2019. While their married life was short-lived, the now-former couple enjoyed a nearly decade-long romance and often gifted each other unique gifts on Valentine’s Day every year. Reports suggest Jolie once splurged $1.6M on a helicopter for her Pitt while the latter gave her breath mints to tease her over “bad breath”.
‘Ange thought it would be nice’
Back in 2012, Jolie spent a whopping $1.6 million for Pitt by purchasing a helicopter and booking flying lessons for her then-fiance as a “surprise gift” for Valentine’s Day. “They’ve had a helicopter pad installed in the grounds of their south of France home, Chateau Miraval. So Ange thought it would be nice to buy Brad a helicopter as a surprise present,” a source told The Sun.
“In particular, they would like to be able to fly to and from Cannes,” the insider said ahead of the couple’s appearance at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Pitt's film, ‘Killing Them Softly’. “But even though Brad has his private pilot’s license, he still needs to take a few flying lessons–which he’ll start straight away,” the source added at the time.
‘It is sort of a joke — and not’
Nearly a year after Jolie allegedly gifted Pitt a helicopter, the latter decided to give the actress a unique Valentine’s Day gift in the form of breath mints. For Valentine’s Day 2013, Pitt reportedly gave Jolie 'Eat Whatever', a vegan, sugar and gluten-free breath-freshening product that consists of a mint candy and a swallowable gel cap. “It is sort of a joke — and not,” an inside source told US Weekly at the time. “He always teases her that she has bad breath,” they added.
“It's a joke gift… he'll also get her something more serious,” the insider mentioned at the time. While Pitt’s serious gift for Jolie remained unknown to the public, the ‘Maleficent’ star was known for showering her now-former husband with lavish gifts. Even before buying the helicopter, Jolie gave Pitt a 200-year-old tree worth approximately $18,500 on their Chateau Miraval compound for Valentine's Day 2010. The following year she gifted him a six-figure diamond pendant engraved with a microscopic love note. In December 2011, Jolie gave Pitt a waterfall in California as double present for his birthday and Christmas.
