Jones later shared her interview with co-hosts Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer adding that it was a ‘delightful conversation’.
Anne Hathaway says ‘aging is just another word’
‘Today' host Sheinelle Jones recently conducted an interview with Anne Hathaway, during which they discussed Hathaway's journey of self-acceptance and embracing her true self.
In the interview, Jones asked, “So a couple of years ago, you said what did I say? When I look back on my 20s, I just remember being afraid of everything. And in my 30s, I'm actually excited about things. So now you've entered your 40s. What would you say about it?”
Hathaway replied, “So far, I'm cherishing I'm right at that point where I have a much better sense of how I like to do things. I'm so much better at sharing. I feel like I'm kinder to myself. I feel like I'm kinder to others.”
She continued, “I started in this business when I was 17 years old in a very different era, and there was this perception that there was going to be a cliff, and that cliff was a really young age. And the world's changed since then.”
Jones chimed in reflecting on her recent decision about her willingness to do ‘hard things’ and said, “We're all starting to say, wait a minute, hang on, hang on, hang on,” and laughed as Hathaway questioned, “What about what I think?”
“What about what I think about what I want to do?”, she added.
Hathaway continued and asked Jones, “I don't know how you feel, but do you feel like you're getting better?”
Jones replied, “Are you kidding me? Like, just getting started, you know? No, absolutely. And I wouldn't trade anything.”
In the conversation about aging, Jones responded to Hathaway by asking, “Let's say on social media, I post a picture, you post a picture, and people say, oh, you're aging gracefully, or, oh, you look so good for your age. Do I say thank you? Are we leaning into the hype of aging?”
Hathaway said, “I don't think about age. I don't. To me, aging is another word for living. So if people want to pay you a compliment, it's nice. But also, whatever the hype is, I'm interested in what's beyond the concept of hype.”
Anne Hathaway as the new brand ambassador of Shiseido
During the interview, Sheinelle Jones went on to question Anne Hathaway about her recent development as she became the brand ambassador of Shiseido.
Jones asked, “What inspired you to partner with Shiseido?”
Hathaway replied, “They're a company that's 130 years old. They have a legacy. I find them to be incredibly thoughtful, intelligent, caring, refined, and I was thrilled and excited that they felt that I could be a part of that.”
She concluded, “They said, oh, so we think the tagline would be potential has no age. And I was just like, I love that, and I love putting that out there, and I love watching these young people who have so much more freedom than I had. Just imagine what they could do if they never had the concept of a cliff or a shelf life or any of those things before.”
