LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Amanda Bynes has been detained again just two months after she was hospitalized for her mental health struggles. The 37-year-old star was handcuffed by the Los Angeles Police Department on Saturday morning, June 17 to conduct a mental health evaluation.
According to a law enforcement source, they received a call about a distressed female individual. After they arrived at the scene, cops identified her as Bynes who was then taken to the police station where a professional medical unit will determine whether she would require further treatment, reported TMZ.
Bynes 'looked defeated as they dealt with her'
Explaining Bynes' behavior while she was taken into custody, eyewitnesses told the media outlet that she was "calm during the interaction" with police and "looked defeated as they dealt with her."
The 'All That' alum, who was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar, was found roaming on the streets of Los Angeles naked in March and after that, she was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. At the time, eyewitnesses shared that Bynes flagged a car down and sought help saying that she was recovering from a psychotic episode. She was taken to a nearby police station after she called 911. A mental health expert then determined Bynes need to be placed on a 5150 hold.
Bynes' ex-fiance said she 'got off her meds'
Talking to Page Six, Bynes' ex-fiance Paul Michael said she "got off her meds, and she’s still off her meds," and added, "She’s wild." After she was detained in March, the medical team at the mental health facility decided to extend her treatment and devised a plan for her treatment. Bynes, who was living alone in her home, remained in her residence to "maintain her independence" even though she was expected to start her outpatient treatment in April.
Sources close to the former child star previously told TMZ that she did not have a support system in her life. However, she meets her siblings and parents "from time to time" and she is on good terms with them. The 'Amanda Show' alum, who retired from acting in 2010, also struggled with substance abuse and was arrested twice for suspicion of DUI.
In March 2022, Bynes was freed from an eight-year conservatorship, and following that she is allowed to make decisions for herself. "Amanda appreciates the love and support of her fans during this time. She thanks her family for never giving up. Now that the conservatorship has ended, she looks forward to completing her bachelor’s degree and living her life," said her lawyer David A Esquibias when the conservatorship ended.
